The YMCA of Greater Houston is dedicated to investing in the community through youth development, social responsibility and health. The M.D. Anderson Family YMCA is located just north of downtown Houston and 75% of the families served at this Y receive a scholarship. The Spindletop Dream Field located at the M.D. Anderson YMCA was completed in 2014 in response to the prior field being in poor condition for the children to play safely. The multipurpose Spindletop Dream Field is a much needed improvement for this Y, and serves as a safe and happy gathering place for neighborhood families to share many first time memories, like throwing a ball for the first time or running bases with new friends. The Spindletop Dream Field provides enrichment to all programs at this Y. Since 1998, Spindletop has donated more than $550,000 to the M.D. Anderson YMCA for various projects such as safe transportation vehicles, scholarships and the early childhood development programs. An additional $100,000 was donated to additional Y’s in the area, namely Lake Houston YMCA located in Kingwood and the Port Arthur YMCA in response to damages from Hurricane Rita. In 2018, Spindletop donated $100,000 to the YMCA of Greater Houston in response to the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey.
